Ahead of the game against Newcastle, Wenger has revealed that some of the injured players are set for a return to the team.
Alexis Sanchez appears to be the first of such players. The 27-year-old has seen himself embark on the break he never consented to. Nevertheless, he is set for a comeback in the coming week.
The reports about his return have been somewhat confusing – he was part of the training squad for the Manchester City game but was eventually declared unfit. Wenger revealed that he would be back sometime around mid January. However, recent revelation from the manager has it that he will be back earlier than expected.
Wenger revealed in his latest press conference that the Chile international will not make available for the Newcastle game but is expected to return against Sunderland.
Via arsenal.com, he was quoted as saying:
“Alexis will be too short for Newcastle. He [could] be back for Sunderland.”
This is good news since the player will be fresh when he returns, and there is a possibility of resting Mesut Ozil ahead of the tougher fixtures later this month.
We play Stoke City, Liverpool and Chelsea, with Sanchez in the team, the chances of coming out with the desirable result is much higher.
